Two Florida Highway Patrol troopers surrender themselves to Osceola County Jail

Two Florida Highway Patrol Troopers have turned themselves into the Osceola County Jail, according to Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.Captain Lenita King was booked on four charges: defrauding to obtain property, public servant falsifying documents, falsifying public or court records, and grand theft greater $750 and less than $5,000.King is facing a $30,000 bond for those charges.Trooper Maurice Vilsaint also turned himself in to the Osceola County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was not booked as of 7:30 p.m. but will update this story when we learn more of his charges.We have reached out to Florida Highway Patrol multiple times on the arrests and whether the troopers are still employed with the agency. Mount Dora Police continue search of pond in connection to missing mother case

Investigators searching for clues in the disappearance of Nicole Baldwin spent another day draining and combing through a retention pond in Deltona, but so far have found no evidence connected to the case.Mount Dora police said crews have been working at the pond off DeBary Avenue for nearly a week after a cadaver dog alerted to the area. Authorities wrapped up Wednesday’s search efforts around 3 p.m. and plan to return Thursday to continue examining what’s left at the site.Baldwin was reported missing from her Mount Dora home in November 2023. More than two years later, officials said they remain committed to pursuing every possible lead. “We cannot leave any stone unturned,” MDPD Deputy Chief Jim Deleu said. “This is a missing person case, and if it was somebody in your family, you would want the same attention,”Drone footage from Channel 9 showed the pond nearly drained as crews sifted through the remaining dirt and debris.Police said their ultimate goal is to locate Baldwin’s remai

Wednesday featured blistering heat and less rain as we enjoyed a brief stint of some drier air. We say goodbye to that dry air Thursday and replace it with deeper moisture.Our Thursday will start off with a sun/cloud mix and dry conditions. This will allow us to quickly heat up into mid-upper 90s as heat indices topple 100ºF. This is the spark we need to turn that deeper moisture into storms. Expect scattered storms to start developing west of I-4 right after lunchtime. With our westerly breezes continuing, our showers will push from west to east. Scattered thunderstorms will dance over the I-4 corridor mid-afternoon and scatter from I-4 to I-95 for the evening commute. Showers will hug the coastline late afternoon and linger until 9-10pm. Brevard County man accepts plea deal in death of 3-year-old to avoid possible death penalty

A Brevard County man accused in the child-abuse death of 3-year-old Jameson Nance has accepted a plea agreement that allows him to avoid the possibility of death row.Joshua Manns, 30, entered a no-contest plea Wednesday while jury selection was underway for his first-degree murder trial in Viera. As part of the agreement with the State Attorney’s Office, Manns was found guilty of second-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, child neglect with great bodily harm, and child abuse.Under the plea deal, Manns will serve 60 years in prison for second-degree murder. Additional sentences of 30 years each for aggravated child abuse and child neglect, along with 26 years for child abuse, will run concurrently with the 60-year sentence.Investigators say Manns and the child’s mother, Erica Dotson, subjected Jameson to months of abuse before his death in June 2021 at a West Melbourne apartment. Prosecutors said the toddler suffered injuries, including a broken rib, brain swelling, and stab wounds.A

20-year-old sentenced to life for killing two teens in Sumter County

A man who was 15 when prosecutors said he killed two Sumter County teenagers has been sentenced to life in prison.Clarence Patterson III, now 20, was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Mary P.
